Live from Bangkok!

Sawasdee ka, dear friends! It's official...we are now residents of the 'City of Angels', otherwise known as Krung Thep, otherwise known as Bangkok, Thailand!!! It's been almost 2 weeks since we arrived, and it's been a blur of apartment hunting (we succeeded on that front and found a GREAT place!), shopping for said apartment, opening bank accounts and cell phones and all of the other things that one must do upon arriving in a new country.  It's all been very hectic and a bit stressful (thus the lack of posting here), but beyond that we are thrilled to have left the cold of Europe behind and to be here in the land of sunshine (and rain), smiling faces and incredible (and spicy) food!

Our lovely apartment on the 20th floor of a gorgeous condo in the Thonglor area of the city is quite a departure from our digs in Paris and is complete with a swimming pool, sauna, gym and doorman who helps us with our groceries. We keep pinching ourselves...that's how unreal it seems! And all importantly, it has a big, lovely and light-filled kitchen!

We've just started buying groceries and stocking up the kitchen, so cooking hasn't been on the agenda thus far. But needless to say, I miss it dearly and can't wait to start exploring all of the markets, fabulous gourmet supermarkets and unknown ingredients and cooking up a storm and then sharing it all with you here! In waiting though, I have to say that we haven't exactly been eating poorly. Bien au contraire in fact, we've been feasting like royalty on all of the wonderful Thai food. Som tam (green papaya salad), tom kha (coconut milk soup), spicy curries, phad thai, fried rice, sticky rice with mango, luscious fresh fruit shakes...it is all heavenly (and cheap!).

To tide you over until I get back into the kitchen, here are some images of all of this goodness! Thanks to all of you for your patience and support during this hectic time, and please stay tuned as The Mistress of Spices gets ever spicier!

  8. Thonglor is a great area to live in, close to BTS, plenty restaurants, and the flower shops at the start of the soi? :D
And you will get used to having the people there help you ... service with a smile in the land of smiles!
